Budget and Fee Overview
Budget Overview
Norfolk United Soccer Club charges registration fees to all players, which provides the bulk of the income to the League. Donations from individuals and Corporations provide additional funds to the League. Fund raising evens are sometimes held to raise additional funds. In the past, tournaments are held by the League which provide some net income.
The registration fees go to pay for a variety of direct and indirect costs associated with the League. Direct costs include VYSA fees and player insurance for each player. The League buys equipment (balls, bags, cones, etc) that are provided to all coaches. Open attendance player clinics are held during the week under supervision of the Director of Coaching. Referees are provided for all U-9 and older games. Coaching clinics and license classes are also provided at modest cost by the League.
Some part of the League income is set aside for player scholarships. Any player who needs financial support to play may appeal to the Scholarship Committee.
The City of Norfolk owns the fields at Lake Taylor and they charge the League a fee to use the fields. The League buys goals, nets, corner flags and other items needed for the games. The League buys paint to line fields (done every week). Finally, the League is working with the city to improve the fields by spreading grass seed, aerating the soil, filling low spots, moving goals and other activities which involve some costs for supplies.
The League has three paid positions: Registrar, Office manager and Director of Coaching. In addition, the League maintains an office which requires office equipment, supplies, phones, postage and the like.
